The Terracotta Army was discovered on 29 March 1974[3] to the east of Xi'an in Shaanxi province. The Terracotta Army or the "Terracotta Warriors and Horses", is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. It is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210–209 BC and whose purpose was to protect the emperor in his afterlife.
The terracotta warriors and horses are the most significant archeological excavations of the 20th century and they bring over 2 million tourists to China per year. It’s thought that each of the soldiers has a unique and distinctive face and real soldiers served as models.
